I sometimes feel like a broken record…because in my line of work many of my patients have symptoms of leaky gut. For the ones that seem interested in truly getting well I often find myself educating them about this far too prevalent issue. With the possibility to effect nearly every body system, leaky gut can cause undercover devastation to a seemingly healthy individual- that is until the body can no longer cope and symptoms appear. My article here will explain more about leaky gut and how it’s probably effecting many people that you know…or even yourself.
One of my favorite doctors, Dr. Josh Axe, wrote an amazing book that was just released at the end of March called Eat Dirt. When I first received this book from TLC Book tours I let out a sigh of relief, because a book like this is long overdue. Finally a simple to read and understandable explanation of leaky gut. It covers how prevalent it really is (Dr. Axe estimates 80% of his patients present with symptoms of it), the reason our modern world is the cause, and the steps we can take to cure it.
As you may know I have never done a book review on this blog, and probably won’t do many in the future, but Eat Dirt just beats to the tune of Clean’s the New Black’s drum, so I knew I had to tell you all about it. Eat Dirt echoes what I have been saying since the beginning- get your gut healthy and you will have health.
If you’re ready to take back your health then Eat Dirt is the book for you. Starting out with a detailed but understandable explanation of leaky gut Dr. Axe makes simple analogies so we can all finally “get it”. I love also that he gives multiple accounts of his patients coming in with a myriad of symptoms, going on the Eat Dirt program and returning with amazing results…feeling better than they have in years. There’s no better proof than real life stories.
It is so common in the Western medicine realm for us to go to doctor after doctor only to never really find wellness or even a diagnosis. If this sounds like you, I would be willing to bet leaky gut has taken hold. The beauty of Eat Dirt is that it shows you how the body is all interconnected and ready to heal if you allow it to.
The last third of Eat Dirt speaks to the five different types of leaky gut: candida gut, stressed gut, immune gut, gastric gut, and toxic gut. Dr. Axe shares a test to discover what your type is and what specific steps we can take to c-u-r-e each one of them. Many of which you can also find here on the blog, like taking probiotics and probiotic rich foods, eating Real Food, eliminating processed, sugary, and packaged foods, eliminating all GMO’s and toxic oils, and having no fear of dirt. Lastly, multiple recipes cap off the book to bring it full circle.
