There’s a bad rumor floating around the health community, originated on the web and spread by health conscious people. I actually found out about it through a patient’s wife, she told me “you know that each tube of toothpaste has a colored stripe on the end of the tube that indicates how natural it is?” “What?!” I exclaimed. Thinking to myself how I didn’t recall any stripes on my natural toothpaste tubes. “Yah, see?” she said handing me a Crest tube. “You see that black stripe, that means it’s the worst for you. You must to look for green stripe to know it’s completely natural.”
Was she right? My skeptical nature thought otherwise, but what a great idea really. How easy would it be for consumers to just look at a color coded system to know if their toothpaste is toxic or safe?
After digging deep…actually it took all of 10 seconds on the world wide web…I confirmed my suspicions. The stripes on the tubes have no relation to the ingredients, instead they are “eye marks” for the packaging machines to cut the tubing. And to confirm my suspicions even more, none of the tubes I have in my home have these markings, none. I guess mine's so natural it doesn’t need a marking. 😉
So, I suppose for now to make sure your paste is safe you’ll have to rely on knowledge of ingredients and if you’re not into that, recommendations from bloggers like myself who you know scrutinize each and every ingredient in literally everything that comes in their home.
For today, I have another amazing and completely natural toothpaste to recommend - sans colored stripe. So, if you're not into toothpowder’s or essential oils for brushing your teeth then this is the paste for you. It’s minty, the perfect consistency, whitening, and great at cleaning- Davids Toothpaste.
Davids paste (keep reading for a 20% off coupon code!) is a creamy white paste that’s deliciously minty. It has a slight foam and requires just a small amount of paste to work. The flavor isn’t overpowering and derived from USA grown mint and stevia…its even approved by my two small girls. The consistency is just as you would want, not sticky, runny, or stringy. It squeezes from the tube easily and stays on the brush without issue. Plus it comes with a tube key, which I love, so the entire tube can be used without wasting a drop.
Here’s the many reasons I love Davids
Fluoride is a hazardous chemical that has long been shown to be toxic to the nervous system. The reason it’s added to toothpaste is because it strengthens enamel. However, the risks of use far outweigh the benefits, especially in children. Not only can we get dental fluorosis, ingestion of more than the recommended pea sized amount leads to fluoride poisoning which can be life threatening. This is why you will notice law mandated hazard warnings on conventional toothpaste...seems pretty silly to put something in our mouths that's toxic if swallowed doesn't it? Click here to learn all you ever wanted to know about Fluoride, from the Fluoride Action Network. Thankfully, Davids Toothpaste is always fluoride free!
100% American Made
Not only is Davids made in the USA, 98% of the ingredients originate from the US as well (the other 2% are Japanese). While often brands make their products in the US, they typically source ingredients from overseas and have them shipped in…displacing our money outside the US and in reality only supporting the US jobs within that company. The way Davids does it truly supports US jobs and economy at multiple levels. Every US sourced ingredient is supporting families just like yours, from the seaweed sourced in Maine to the limestone from Cali, by buying Davids we are contributing to our economic stability. And because I couldn’t resist…this is what helps - Make America Great Again! 🇺🇸
Leaping Bunny certified and never tested on animals.
No toxic Sodium Lauryl Sulfate here. SLS is bad for the environment and is a skin irritant. This can lead to mouth sores and irritation in some…like me🙋 Plus there's potential contamination with carcinogens from SLS production. Davids uses sodium cocoyl glutamate that’s an alternative to SLS made from coconuts which scores a 1 on the EWG rating.
I just love the minimalistic design of Davids and that it comes in a super rad metal tube that’s 100% recyclable (standard plastic ones aren’t). The box is made by 100% wind energy and the paper from forests protected by the Forest Stewardship Council which ensures the forests are logged in sustainable fashions.
Safe Non-toxic Ingredients
