One thing that was difficult for me when diving into the green beauty scene was the lack of sudsing compared to conventional products. My body wash, toothpaste, shampoo, and facial cleanser no longer produced clouds of white foam. While there was sometimes still the occasional puddle of white bubbles, it was no where near what I was used to. Some items I accepted…toothpaste, no problem…but shampoo and facial cleanser….W-h-a-t! No!
It wasn't until I noticed that indeed my hair and face was just as clean as before but noticeably less irritated and much more balanced that I accepted the fact natural products don’t foam as well but they sure clean as well. Now, years and years into the green beauty realm I don’t even bat an eye when my shampoo has almost zero foam or my facial cleanser is actually oil!
However, I know that this is still an issue for some as I get asked about foaming cleansers frequently. So, I thought it would be good to review Dermaplus and their two foaming cleansers….plus two other products.
Dermaplus Skin + Body is has a brick and mortar skin boutique in San Fran and has been delivering custom blended skin care and treatment since 2001. They carry an array of products for oily to mature skin. From the very beginning they have worked to provide an innovative line of skin care that’s not only chemical free but Professional Grade potency.
Gentle and refreshing this lightly scented citrus cleanser has a medium foam and removes dirt, makeup, and grime easily. It’s formulated for normal to oily skin types and leaves my skin soft and clean each time I use it.
Packaged in a pump bottle, one squirt is all you need for a medium lather anyone looking for a foaming cleanser would enjoy. The cleanser is infused with extracts of chamomile, sage, coltsfoot, yarrow, mint, rosemary, thyme, horsetail, and althea to provide a lovely aroma as well as revival to the skin.
The foaming agent Dermaplus uses is sodium cocoyl sulfate, which scores a 1 on the EWG site, however the data they source is sadly none…again revealing the issues with the EWG ratings. It does carry a risk to cause skin irritation, which I didn’t notice in myself. This is a personal call here, as we all have different standards. For green beauties looking for that holy grail of foaming cleansers Dermaplus has your back. Find it here for $30
Exfoliating Chamomile Cleanser
This is the same product as above except with the addition of sodium bicarbonate eco-friendly microbeads. The beads are very small and provide the most gentle exfoliation, completely non-irritating or abrasive. Because it’s so gentle this cleanser could be used frequently, perhaps on a daily basis for some skin types. It really left a nice clean and soft feel to my skin.
Dermaplus Hydrating Toner is a great companion to their cleansers. It’s light and smells of sweet berries and packed with skin plumping ingredients. Seaweed extract, aloe, and sodium hyaluronate all boost cellular hydration, which keeps the skin hydrated and plumped for hours. Plus, plant C-stem cells from Mung Bean work to repair the cells from environmental damage.
I really love this toner as it provides my skin with a perfect amount of protection and moisture. It’s hydrating enough that I can use just this after a cleanser and be good to go for the day without any additional serums or moisturizers...although I know this wouldn't work for all skin types. This makes it perfect for the hot summer months we have ahead of us in Southern California. Plus is can be used in substitute for water with any powder masks you may have...it gives a lovely skin firmin boost. Dermaplus sells the Hydrating Toner here for $30.
Lightweight and soothing this moisturizer is quick to absorb but keeps hydration levels stable throughout the day. A thick gel texture with a honeysuckle and cucumber scent from essential oils. Aloe, shea butter, olive oil, squalane, jojoba oil, and B5 protect and hydrate while apple stem cells inhibit aging. Extracts of honeysuckle, pomegranate, green tea, chamomile, and white tea provide antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.
I love how quickly this moisturizer soaks into the skin, almost immediately. It leaves a fine layer of protection and gives a smoothed feeling to the skin. It’s a favorite of mine in hot weather for its superior absorption and protection. It also wears well under makeup. It’s available here for $55.
I would like to mention that for my personal choice I always lean towards products with few or no synthetic ingredients. The internet is filled with conflicting opinions regarding certain synthetics which makes it something I would prefer to avoid in my skincare. Considering there are many other natural alternatives I always choose those, however, that does mean that heavy foaming is out of the question. So, because of this I felt it was important to present you with clean options in skincare that do contain synthetic ingredients. Dermaplus is a great company that chooses to use some synthetic ingredients, but all of which are of low concern in the multiple cross references I read.
