Less Than Terrific Skin? 5 Products for Stubborn Acne

Acne sucks, I've detailed my wrestles with it here and explained my best tips here. While I no longer have acne I do still get a pimple here and there and recently battled two month of breakouts...yikes!

Because most of us get a zit now and again I thought I'd compile a post with the best of the best when it comes to natural acne products. Make sure to also check out my 10 tips to get your skin back on track, because no acne is going away without diet and lifestyle changes. Also, the book, Irresistible You, is another great resource.

Georgia May Clear Sailing Serum

Georgia May has some serious talents when it comes to making her light Clear Sailing Serum for acne prone skin. Rich in skin renewing, balancing, and scar healing botanicals this serum is just what the acne doctor ordered.

I love its neutral scent and very light weight feel. The translucent pale pale yellow oil is jam packed with nutrients. Some of the rock stars are the aloe (first ingredient and always a fav of any skin type), tamanu oil, black cumin oil, pomegranate oil, and e.o. of cilantro and frankincense. Here's the full ingredients list...eat your heart out.

This oil always absorbs swiftly and leaves a mellow glow. It's light enough to be used day and night and goes well under makeup. I'm always sure to use two or three drops in the day and 3-4 at night. Find the serum starting at $41 here.

Spot treatments

I couldn't just pick one and here's why. The Fix Me Acne is a great under makeup treatment. Being that it's all dry essential oils its very quick absorbing and doesn't make concealer run. The Truore Spot Treatment is a great option for days if you’re not using concealer and my choice at night. It's oiler and therefore causes concealer to drift from its original resting place, but it's better at reducing scars and redness. Having both in the medicine cabinet is a great one two knockout against any zit. Here's a bit more about each one.

4 Elementum Fix Me Acne

Coming in a conveniently small sized office reducing vile (yes, I realize that sounded silly, but that's what it's called!) the 4 Elementum Fix Me Acne is easy to get just a small dab on your finger to apply it. I hate wasting product, and often feel the typical dropper syringes give too large of an amount for spot treatment needs. 4 Elementum takes the win here for innovation and preventing product waste…love it!

But there’s way more to love

A synergy of tea tree, lemon, and lavender this spot treatment is straightforward yet powerful. It is antibacterial, calming, redness reducing, and drying but not overly so. The treatment absorbs in a flash and leaves a slight tea tree floral scent for 10 or so minutes.

Each time I use this amazing treatment my zit is zapped in a much shorter time. It often works so well that it prevents the blemish from evolving, stoping it in its tracks and then reducing its presence to zero. Meaning what would be white heads never actually make it to that gross stage-hooray! Find it for $19 here.

Tuore Intense Acne Elixer

This beauty is a mix of cell repairing, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, astringent, and soothing compounds. The Tuore Intense Acne Elixer comes in a small dropper vile and can be used as a spot treatment or on acne prone areas preventively. It not only stops new zits from forming but quells those that have reared their ugly heads. Plus I find it great at helping to heal scars, something that the 4Elementum spot treatment lacks.

After applying this godsend of a mixture zits are soothed and much less irritated, both looking and feeling. The Elixir is a blend of a variety of essential oils and oils of hemp, sea buckthorn, watermelon seed, tamanu, and meadowfoam. This creates a potent fusion of zit zapping goodness that keeps me coming back. Oh, and the other bonus is that the Intense Acne Elixir is only $10.50, find it here.

Marin Bee Detox Mask

This white divine mask was a godsend when I had that two month my skin hates me issue a bit ago. The Marin Bee Detox Mask was a true savior and made a noticeable difference in my skin after one use. A MARJOR turn around skin product!

There's so many good things about this mask it's hard to know where to start. So I guess I'll go with the sweet stuff first, the mixture is one-third Cali Wildflower Honey 🍯. More on why honey is great for your skin here. By itself the honeys antibacterial, hydrating, and calming effects are great for acne. But then Marin Bee mixes it with some serious contenders like pumpkin enzyme, kaolin clay, sulfur, green tea leaf, sea salt, and oats to battle acne on multiple fronts.

It's exfoliating, hydrating, antibacterial, detoxifying, calming, anti-inflammatory, and pore reducing...wow! And truly it does all these things.

I like to use this bad boy twice a week (or more on just spots) to keep my skin blemish free and so so calm. It does have a slight sulfur smell but nothing off putting. The mask is a thick honey texture and white. It spreads with a medium effort and is left on for 10 minutes. Find it here for $48 and use code CTNB20 to save you 20% off your entire order at Marin Bee! (Their Body Polish also made the cut on my Winter Skin Savers roundup).

Toner Leaf Seed Berry Strawberry Exfoliating Toner

A decongesting and acne clearing tonic the Leaf Seed Berry Strawberry Exfoliating Toner is a favorite of mine. First off it smells of sweet and slightly tart strawberry…one of the most delicious scents around if you ask me. This scent is derived from strawberry fruit water, nothing artificial or fake of course.

Second, this toner contains a hefty dose of willow bark extract. Which, is natures salicylic acid, without the drying side effects. That means smaller, clear pores due to increased cell turnover…plus fine lines and skin are smoothed as an added bonus. Bye bye black heads, premature aging, and acne.

The Strawberry Toner is gentle for everyones skin, and extra bad ass at combating acne and fading existing scars. It has brightening organic goji, licorice, and green tea which all offer an antioxidant bath and calming properties. Plus the addition of organic ginger root stops collagen breakdown. Oh, and let’s not forget to mention the aloe (my fav of fav botanicals), chamomile, and silk amino acids.

Use this berry Toner after cleansing by swiping face with a cotton pad. Preferably letting dry for 5-10 minutes before applying any other products. 90% of the time I make sure to take this step, and I often find my skin feels so balanced and even afterwards I don’t need a moisturizer. But if I do choose to moisturize the toner always allows for even non-sticky application. Since using this toner I have noticed a huge difference in the amount of congestion and black heads. It’s available here for $24.

So there it is, my complete kick your acne in the ass arsenal. What are your tips for clearing up stubborn spots?
